Legal Services

CSEA’s Legal Department offers protection to our members by litigating cases in the area of labor and employment law, as well as providing essential legal counsel to the Organization and to several Standing Board Committees, including our Judicial Board and our Statewide Election Committee.

By addressing a wide range of legal needs, our Legal Department ensures that our members have the representation and guidance they require to navigate complex legal issues effectively and with confidence.

CSEA’s Legal Department was established by our Delegates in 1987 to better assist our members with their growing legal needs and to strengthen the support system available to them. Over the years, our Legal Department has expanded significantly, growing into a dedicated staff now comprising 11 staff attorneys, 2 Legal Assistance Program Administrators, and 8 support staff, alongside a network of regional attorneys strategically located around NYS. This team is committed to providing our members and our union with quality representation in labor and employment law matters, ensuring that their rights and interests are consistently protected. Additionally, our Legal Department administers discounted legal services in various areas, including Elder Law, Workers’ Compensation, Social Security Disability, Personal Legal matters, and Personal Injury matters, making critical legal resources more accessible and affordable for our members.
