Are you a Member?
Below is a comprehensive and detailed distinction between non-members and CSEA dues-paying members, designed to help you gain a clearer understanding of the numerous benefits, opportunities, and responsibilities that come with being an active and engaged member of the organization.
Non-Members:
Individuals who are not members of the union are not entitled to participate in voting on union contracts. The ability to vote on such contracts is a privilege reserved exclusively for union members in good standing.
Non-members are similarly excluded from the electoral process for union leadership positions across all levels of the organization, including Unit, Local, Regional, and Statewide. As CSEA operates as a democratic and member-governed organization, non-members relinquish the opportunity to influence the governance and strategic direction of the union.
Moreover, non-members are ineligible to access the comprehensive range of benefits available exclusively to union members. These benefits include, but are not limited to, a $10,000 life insurance policy, discounts on tires, accommodations, car rentals, cruises, pet insurance, higher education tuition, AT&T phone plans, Buyer’s Edge services, Raymour and Flanigan furniture discounts, and a variety of other advantageous offerings.
While certain contractual benefits are extended to all employees, it is critical to note that numerous additional services and privileges are exclusively accessible to union members.
Furthermore, non-members are not entitled to union representation in disciplinary matters. This includes support during investigatory hearings and grievance processes, leaving non-members without the critical advocacy and assistance the union provides in such situations.
Non-members are also barred from attending union meetings or participating in informational sessions. As a result, they forfeit access to essential updates and opportunities to engage within the organization.
Given these significant distinctions, we strongly encourage all eligible workers to consider becoming union members. Membership ensures access to valuable resources, representation, and the ability to have a meaningful voice in the union’s decision-making processes. To initiate the enrollment process, please complete a CSEA membership application. For further assistance or to obtain an application, kindly contact Barbara at the Union Office by calling 328-5250.
